TCN

The Christian Network will support the following positions in its public statements:

    POVERTY
We recognise that it is God's intention that the church and every believer be mindful of the poor and actively involved in fighting poverty. People are to be generous toward the poor in a way that breeds self-reliance and not dependancy. The present focus in South Africa on meeting the needs of the poor through making it easier to own houses, the provision of free water, and skills development is supported. Every citizen needs to be enabled to participate and contribute to the wellbeing of society.

    FAMILY
Family life should be strengthened and family values should be supported and protected. Strong family relationships provide a nurturing environment for the launch of young people into their destiny. These relationships should be promoted, as they act as strong deterrents to destructive and immoral practices.

    HIV/AIDS
With regards to HIV/AIDS, it is vital that abstinence from sex before marriage be advocated as the preferred choice. People have a free will and are able to choose between right and wrong. Being faithful to your marriage partner is another important message in this regard. These should be the main messages in the prevention and fight against the spread of HIV/AIDS. The loving care for HIV/AIDS sufferers and their families, and for HIV/AIDS orphans is supported.

    DRUG ABUSE
The legalising of drugs is not supported because of their destructive effects on the lives of those that use them. There is physical, psychological and spiritual damage in users. Christian-based rehabilitation programs are supported with the conviction that God's power can bring freedom and restoration.

    ABORTION
Women facing crisis pregnancies need the love of God and have the right to be informed of practical ways in which they can keep the baby, or consider giving the baby for adoption to loving parents. The easy availability of abortion should be avoided as far as possible. While abortion is wrong, the pregnant woman in crisis should also receive proper care and guidance. Women with the scars of abortion should be appropriately cared for.

    SEXUALITY
People who are struggling with gender identity (homosexuals and lesbians) are loved by God. All people need God, and He does not expect them to put their lives right before they can come to Him. People struggling with gender identity are thus welcome in our churches, and jokes and comments that despise the homosexual are out of place. in an atmosphere of grace, they should be invited into a relationship with God who knows how to end the gender confusion. While homosexual practice is wrong, it is not worse than other sins. In our society we oppose the teaching of the homosexual lifestyle as an alternative, as well as the legalizing of live-in homosexual relationship as 'marriage'.
